Alex Honnold Free Solos in Yosemite

After having climbed a couple of 8c's at The Jailhouse outside San Francisco, Alex Honnold made a couple of mind blowing free solos.

On the morning of June 13, 2011, in eight minutes he made the first free solo ascent of the legendary crack The Phoenix, first climbed by Ray Jardine (photos from its second ascent here).

Peter Mortimer was filming Alex:

" its scary as shit and its hard to hold the camera steady.

Filming climbing is fun; filming free soloing is fucking scary and intense.

Filming a free solo of the Phoenix at peak runoff is mind boggling."

Then, Alex free soloed the fifteen pitch Chouinard-Herbert (5.11c) on Yosemite's Sentinel Rock.
