9b "topo-guide" groups: multimedia, interactive, FREE topos

In 9b there are two kind of groups:

- "country" groups, where we can discuss in our own country's language

- "topo guide" groups, dedicated to a specific climbing area, searchable on this google map.

In every topo guide group we can discuss in the following 2 languages:

1) the language of the country where is located the group's climbing area (examples: french for Ceuse group, spanish for Rodellar group, ...)

2) english

Every climber can:

- start a new discussion

- join already started conversations
Al and Erik -- discussing toe fungus

There are topo guide groups dedicated to every kind of climbing: sport, bouldering, trad, dws, ...
So there are discussions for every kinds of ascents:
- a boulder
- a psicobloc
- a sport route
- a trad route
- a multipitches big wall
- an ice, mixed, dry-tooling route
- an himalayan route
...

A "topo guide" group is a mix between:

a) a "wiki", with videos too, but less aseptic and impersonal

b) a forum, but more focused on sharing informations about a specific climbing area, sector, ascent

So, to write "as it comes" we can use forums and blogs; in "topo guides", to avoid confusion, please read carefully the following INSTRUCTIONS.

If You need additional informations, don't exitate to ask in comments.

Discussions can refer to:

1) a climbing AREA.
St. Trinity Climbing area and monastery

We can share our personal COMMENTS, REPORTS, OPINIONS, EXPERIENCES, HISTORIES, ANECDOTES.

Examples:
- our opinion about the area
- how many stars (1 to 3) of BEAUTY we give to the area
- our personal description

Then, we can add "cold" (NOT personal and more general) INFORMATIONS.

Examples:
- directions
- if possible to get there with public transport
- where to sleep and buy food
- how many sectors
- what to do in rest days, ...
- total routes or boulders or ...
- type of climbing
- best period
- rock type / quality
- chance to find climbing partners if alone
- equipment type and safety level
- if climbable when it rains

2) a specific SECTOR.
Manel (a mitja via)

In this case our personal COMMENTS, REPORTS, OPINIONS, EXPERIENCES, HISTORIES, ANECDOTES, could be:
- our opinion about the atmosphere of the sector
- how many stars (1 to 3) of BEAUTY we give to the sector
- our description

And the "cold" (NOT personal and more general) INFORMATIONS:

- how to reach it
- how many routes/boulders
- best period
- exposition
- ...
- the list of the routes, as shown in the following example.

The single sectors' discussions are not added within, but outside the discussion dedicated to the referred area, the discussions are separated.

3) a specific single ASCENT, referring to our own ascents and/or from other climbers.

We can write and share our personal COMMENTS, REPORTS, OPINIONS, EXPERIENCES, HISTORIES, ANECDOTES.

Examples:
- our opinion about the GRADE of difficulty, phisical and psychological too
- number of our tries
- the DATE when we open and/or repeat an ascent
- the DATE of our "on sight", flash, ... ascents
- how many stars (1 to 3) of BEAUTY we give to the ascent
- our description

Examples of "cold" (NOT personal and more general) INFORMATIONS:
- the DATE when other climbers open and/or repeat an ascent
- the DATE of other climbers first "on sight", flash, female, ... ascents
- type of ascent
- longitude, latitude, altitude MAP (just use this tool)
- bolted by
- predominant type of holds
- predominant type of climbing
- height
- suggested rope lenght
- inclination (degrees)
- exposition
- distance between protections
- if climbable when it rains
- hours with sun in different seasons

The single ascents' discussions are not added within, but outside the discussion dedicated to the referred sector, the discussions are separated.

If You start a new discussion referred to an ascent, please, as title, write "name of the ascent, name of the sector (where the ascent is located)". Thanks in advance.

So, every discussion in a "topo guide" group is a kind of multi-authors blog post, where everybody can participate writing a comment, adding photos, or a video, a link, ...

In every kind of multimedia discussions we can share not only TEXTS

We can share also:

* PHOTOS

We can upload on 9b our own photos directly from our pc:

See also as another example this photo by Chuck Fryberger

In this case, to avoid to make 9b site slower and photos in discussions take long time to download, when adding them in a discussion, please resize photos using OPTIONS:
it's very important to check off "create thumbnail" and write a width not more than 700 pixels.

Here You can see a full screen VIDEO tutorial about using options.

If You check off "Popup Window" too, You let readers view the full-size version of the image.
( After that, if clicking on options is not enough, press "Ctrl + -" to be able to click "Add").

In this full screen VIDEO tutorial You can see the result.

In discussions we can add photos from photo platforms too:

If You are new to online photosharing and like to know more about it:

To convert photos in a video (with audio too) in order to produce embeddable video-slideshows, just use this tool or the better, a little more complicated, Animoto.

* VIDEOS

To insert videos in discussion pages copy and paste the code of the video in page-discussion.

We can take the videos' code from video platforms like Youtube, Blip, Vimeo, ...:

And from 9b, if You upload Your video directly from Your pc to 9b:

If You like to embed just a specific part of a YouTube Video just use Tubechop.

When You add photos and videos of a particular sector, please, note:
a sector is not just rock, like the single ascent is.
A sector is more NATURE close and around the rock: sun, sky, mountains, lakes, ...
It's the perfect middle between the whole climbing area and the single ascent.
So the way to discuss about a sector is NOT collect photos and/or videos of many ascents (routes or boulders,...) of that sector.
A sector is not the sum of many "pieces of rock".
With photos and videos we can answer to the following questions:
- which is the "soul", the atmosphere of that particular sector ?
- where the sector is located in the whole climbing area ?

* LINKS

link (explored!)

To make a word "linkable", just select it, click on link icon

write the url You want to link, click ok.

* LINKS TRANSLATIONS

* attached FILES
Click on the icon

And attach Your file:

* DRAWNS
We can drawn on a paper our own simple topo, scanner and add it as a normal photo:

And we can drawn together on the same board (real time too) using this tool, or, maybe better, this one.

And/or we can add our own drawns' photos.

In every discussion it's always useful and VERY IMPORTANT to add "tags":

If You like to give Your contributions about a particular climbing area not already existing in this map, just send an email (novebi@gmail.com): it will be create as soon as possible, thanks.

Enjoy sharing !
